Contamiation Problems and Tips

Contamination Tips

Hydraulic systems are constantly plagued with contamination problems, which are caused by:

  • PRIMARY CONTAMINATION
  • SECONDARY CONTAMINATION
  • Contamination due to particulate can affect the system operation & can cause component failure due to seizure of sliding or rotating members. The clearances on the component become contaminated with particles & restrict or prevent movement of parts within the system.

The actual thickness of a lubricating film depends on fluid viscosity, applied load and the relative speed of the two surfaces.

In many components mechanical loads are to such an extreme that they squeeze the lubricants into a very thin film less than 1 micrometer thick.

If loads become high enough, the film will be punctured by the roughness of the two moving surfaces.

This result contributes to harmful friction.
